Day 10 Post 10 - Learning

Today I got everything done that I wanted to get done. that was a good feeling even if I worked an hour later than I planned. Of course there were still unexpected hiccups and urgent issues that I had to deal with. Some of which I need to start passing onto the supervisors.

In Extreme Ownership, they talk about leading up and down the chain of command and decentralized command. I am pretty good at keeping my boss in the loop. Probably more than he wants me too. I need to make sure I am keeping the supervisors well informed too. As for decentralized command, I struggle with letting my supervisors do their job. I tend to just take of things as they come up.

Last night after reading the chapter about leading up and down the chain, I stepped back from a situation and let my supervisor handle it. It would have been really for me to diffuse the situation and I would have know it was taken care off. Instead I spent the evening wondering if it had been taken care of. It was. It was detailed in my morning report. The waiting was a little hard to do.

I am probably going to read this book again and find more ways to improve as a leader.

What are you learning these days?
